Kicking off his career on keys and guitar in the critically-acclaimed Brisbane group Halfway, Luke Daniel Peacock has since become a prolific songwriter in his own right. In 2014, he was the driving creative force for the groundbreaking project, The Painted Ladies, a group that revived the lost songs of Vic Simms in an album titled ‘The Painted Ladies Play Selections From The Loner’. This collaboration was produced by Rusty Hopkinson from You Am I and featured The Medics, Paul Kelly, Ed Kuepper (The Saints/The Laughing Clowns), Ian Haug (The Church/Powderfinger), John Willsteed (The Go-Betweens), Phil Noy & Eugene Ball (The Bamboos), Bunna Lawrie (Coloured Stone) and many more. In February 2016, he released his first solo album titled ‘We’ve Come A Long Way Darling’ to much praise, including a Queensland Music Award for his song ‘Fruits Of Our Labour’, as well as receiving the prestigious Billy Thorpe Scholarship Award in 2016. His work sounds like a modern day Australian version of Bruce Springsteen, and he’s well on his way to becoming a legendary artist in his own right.

Coming from Sydney, Jonathan Boulet released his self titled debut solo album in 2009 through Modular Recordings. His debut record was written, recorded, played and produced by himself in his small garage studio. The album was released to much praise and earned him a spot on the Splendour In The Grass lineup in 2010. His second album ‘We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart’ was released in 2012 which further solidified his ability to write catchy, high energy indie pop. After playing a string of international shows and showcases at SXSW, Jonathan took a year off in Berlin to work on new music. What emerged in 2014 was a radically different beast from his previous work. Now signed to Popfrenzy Records, his latest album Gubba is nothing but rock n roll with big drums, face melting guitars, and heavy thumping bass lines.

In 2012, Ultra Material was born from two couples who had shared stages with their respective husband-wife Brisbane bands, Matt & Sarah Deasy from ‘Do The Robot’ and Nick Skepper & Zuzana Kovar from Sunshine State. The two duos combined their instruments and started to make their own blend of dreamgaze with swirling key lines, effected guitar delays and soaring vocals backed by breakbeat-esque rhythms.

In the last year, they’ve released a self-titled EP cassette and their debut album ‘Double Date’ on Sydney’s Blackwire Records label, which has had tastemakers salivating for more.

When you mash together the sounds of The Cure, The Go-Betweens, The Velvet Underground and The Triffids, you get Sydney’s Big White, who weave all of those influences into their own strain of jangle pop. Within the span of two years, they’ve packed their sounds into a suitcase and travelled to the US and Europe, playing to swelling crowds, all while they were still writing songs for their first album, Teenage Dreams, which was eventually released in April 2016 on Caroline Records in Australia and Burger Records in the US.

Starting in Melbourne in 2014, Gold Class has had a rapid rise to where they are today. In two years, they have released a 7 inch, written, recorded and released their debut album ‘Its You’ via well known tastemaker label Spunk Records here in Australia, as well as scoring an international release through Felte Records for the US and Europe. Their sound has drawn comparisons to bands from the UK’s post-punk beginnings like Joy Division and The Cure.

Pale Heads are a punk rock super-power formed from several pieces of DNA from Melbourne’s underground scene including members from The Nation Blue, The Drones, Batpiss, and BANG! BANG! AIDS!. They are fast, loud and straight to the point punk rock, which has made it easily for them to slip into the roster of legendary Australian label Poison City for the release of their first album ‘Headless’ which was released in May 2015.

Starting off in 2011 Mere Women create a dark, and dreamy style of tunes best described as post punk goth pop. Wasting no time in sharing their gloomy tunes with the world they have released two full albums with the legendary label Poison City Records, the latter of which was recorded in an ill lit moderately repurposed cold storage unit that helps truly capture the vibe they are dishing out.

Made up of three siblings and a spiritual brother Blank Realm have been kicking around since 2008. Starting off as an improvised noise group, they band have truly refined their sound over their 8-year life span into a careful concoction of erratic noise and unforgettable hooks.  Much like their albums, their live shows have a continually growing reputation for being utter chaos and strangely mesmerising at the same time. Unafraid to throw in a curve ball and hit a few strange notes, Blank Realm will always keep you guessing.

Starting off in Sydney, Step Panther have shredded their way across stages locally and internationally for the last 6 years. With their lo-fi rock n roll garage pop tunes you could easily mistake their sound for something made in a Detroit garage in the 1960’s. Their high energy rambunctious live shows have earned them slots on sxsw, and the great escape, as well as supporting international acts Yuck, Kurt Vile, and Girls. With two EPS, two albums and a third album on the way, Step Panther show no signs of slowing down.

Known for his work as half of the two headed screaming beast that is the iconic Brisbane band Six Ft Hick, Ben Corbett demonstrates his ability to produce the polar opposite in his side project. Originally teaming up with Nick Naughton from fellow Brisbane group Skippy Showband to play country covers, it wasn’t long before they began crafting their own songs inspired by the likes of Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Burt Bacharach. Ben Corbett himself describes the songs as “a rock and roll country combo. Like bacon and maple syrup, it shouldn’t work but it does”. Gentle Ben and his sensitive side seldom perform live so capturing this set is a true rarity.

Starting in 2006 with little more than a small keyboard she got given as a gift, Scraps has released numerous recordings in various formats and has lit dance floors not only in Australia, but around the world as well. Recorded at The Brightside, Brisbane,  4th April 2014.

You might know Ela Stiles from some of the bands she’s played in over the last couple of years: Songs and Bushwalking. It was the band Songs which she began with Max Doyle that saw her focus shift from modelling to music. She’s been a member of Songs since 2007 and Bushwalking started as a psych three-piece that she originally formed to work on her solo songs. It turned out to be more of a band than a solo project and they released their second LP ‘No Enter’ in September 2013. In 2014, Ela released her debut self-titled solo record on Bedroom Suck Records which which displays her discovering her vocal talents through experimentation.
