Live at Crowbar, Fortitude Valley, 1 November 2019
Contrary to their name, Israeli Chicks are actually a group of men from Byron Bay. With Sam Love on vocals and bass, Zar Harper on guitar and Louie O’Riordan on drums, the trio started off as housemates before forming a band and playing their first gig in 2016. The EP “I Love You Mum” came quickly the following year, followed by the “Ham & Egg Double” single in 2018 and “Natural Decline” EP in 2019.

Previously featured on episode 266 of Live Delay, Bad Bangers is the project of Alex Campbell and Joe Hanmer. Continuing the riot grrrl/punk trajectory of her previous band GUNK, Campbell teamed up with drummer Hanmer in 2015 and began making some noise together. Their ten-track, self-titled EP was recorded in a single day and released in January 2016. This was followed in 2018 by the “Hooray For Everything” EP. Since then Campbell and Hanmer have been more involved in the somewhat gentler and folkier band Full Power Happy Hour, with Bad Bangers emerging only for occasional shows.
The set was mixed an audio production student from the Queensland University of Technology as part of his final assessment piece. We’d like to thank John Willsteed and Yanto Browning at QUT for facilitating this collaboration.

A new band from aheadphonehome ringleader Phil Laidlaw, Glows are made up of Elly Angel on guitar, Tom Cooney on bass and Kurt Read on drums. Their instrumental post-rock stylings have proven quite popular with local audiences since emerging in mid-2019.

For this episode we are doing something a little different. As it has officially ticked over past the halfway mark of 2019 we thought we would have a retrospective and look back at some our favourite live tracks that we have featured this year.
Featuring highlights from Luca Brasi, Bad Bangers, Dumb Things, P-Unique, Requin, McKisko, turnpike, Harmony, Asha Jefferies, Start Together, June Low and CNT EVN.

First off lets get stuck into an amazing set by Eliza and The Delusionals. This set was recorded at The Triffid when the Gold Coast band were supporting Luca Brasi on their tour (which if you’re interested was Episode 264 of Live Delay). Eliza and The Delusionals started in 2015 and have been playing consistently all over the country at some of the biggest venues and festivals we have to offer. They are an enigmatic live act. They deliver their powerful indie rock sound with big guitar riffs and lead singer Eliza entices with a strong and engaging voice. They have released various singles and an EP in 2017 called ‘The Deeper End’. They have really refined their live performance and this set is one that can’t be missed.

Bad Bangers are a wicked punk duo combining the forces of vocalist and guitarist Alex and Vocalist and drummer Joe. They have been playing stages delivering their punk energy and winning crowds over with their good vibes and catchy tunes. They released their first EP in 2016 and have released singles with the latest recording being 2018s Hooray For Everything. They bring the energy, with large distorted guitar riffs and fast crashing drum fills. I was lucky enough to witness this set filled with big tracks from their EPs at Sonic Masala Festival and can attest to how tight their set was.
