Episode 45: The Stress of Leisure

tsol supermarket shoot

In Episode 45 of Live Delay we take in the exciting almost disco pop of Brisbane four piece The Stress of Leisure.

Recorded by Darragh Murray.
Mixed by Branko Cosisc.
Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane, September 2013.

The Stress of Leisure – while actually a four piece band – is the brainchild of Brisbane local Ian Powne who has been performing under this name since 2005.

A big fan of the concept album, Ian’s songwriting has moved from the gentle pop of the band’s 2008 self titled effort to the almost Talking Head-ish art rock found on the tropically themed 2012 record Cassowary.

Featuring Pascalle Burton, Jane Elliot and Phil Usher – The Stress of Leisure are also an accomplished live act, and you’re sure to hear that coming through on the following live recording.

Tune in to hear the band playing live at The Beetle Bar in Brisbane.

We continue a journey down memory lane and check in the raw live power of Melbourne’s YIS as well as thrown in a few live tracks from INTERCOOLER. W00t!

Melbourne fuzz monsters, YIS, have been kicking it around the traps for a number of years now, bringing their sweaty pysch rock being a staple of the Melbourne music scene since 2009. Made up of brothers Simon, Andrew and Matt (plus non-relative Brownyn) the band released the well-received ‘Kingdom of Fuzz’ in 2011. This set was recorded by Robbie Adams at The Tote in Melbourne in March 2012 and features hit after hit of fuzz-madness, including an excellent version of ‘(I Feel) Repulsed’.
