Recorded at BIGSOUND – The Foundry, Fortitude Valley, 5 September 2018

Wax Chattels:

Wax Chattels are a trio of former jazz students hailing from Auckland, New Zealand. Several years after meeting at the University of Auckland, Amanda Cheng, Peter Ruddell and Tom Leggett formed Wax Chattels and were quickly snatched up by legendary New Zealand record label Flying Nun Records.

With the band releasing their debut, self-titled album in 2018, the Live Delay crew was on the ground to capture their BIGSOUND showcase performance at The Foundry.

The Stress of Leisure:

Recorded by Nell Forster
Mixed by James Fearn-Wannan
Recorded at 4ZZZ’s end of year party – The Bearded Lady, West End, 22 December 2018

Originally the solo home recording project of musician Ian Powne, The Stress of Leisure has grown into a full fledged band since forming in the early 2000s. Over six albums, the group has steadily evolved into its present form of singer/guitarist Powne, singer/keyboardist Pascalle Burton, bassist Jane Elliott and drummer Jessica Moore.

EP 150: CLEVER; The Stress of Leisure

Recorded by Branko Cosic.
Mixed by Josh Watson
Recorded at The Haunt, Brisbane, July 4th 2015.

Starting off in October 2014, CLEVER have wasted no time taking their chaotic noise punk shows up and down the east coast playing in Nambour, Brisbane, Lismore, Newcastle, and Sydney as well as scoring a ton of support slots for local and international artists. If they keep things up at this pace, you can expect to hear a lot more of them.

The Stress of Leisure

Recorded by Darragh Murray.
Mixed by Branko Cosic
Recorded at Beetle Bar, Brisbane, 20th September 2013.

Formed in 2005 by vocalist and guitarist Ian Powne, and self described as ‘sub tropical post punk pop crossed with art school indie’ the stress of leisure has remained 100% independent and released a total of 5 albums all through their own record label over their mammoth career. Although the band members have not remained consistent, The Stress of Leisure continues to produce great songs with great choruses.

Episode 45: The Stress of Leisure

In Episode 45 of Live Delay we take in the exciting almost disco pop of Brisbane four piece The Stress of Leisure.

Recorded by Darragh Murray.
Mixed by Branko Cosisc.
Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane, September 2013.

The Stress of Leisure – while actually a four piece band – is the brainchild of Brisbane local Ian Powne who has been performing under this name since 2005.

A big fan of the concept album, Ian’s songwriting has moved from the gentle pop of the band’s 2008 self titled effort to the almost Talking Head-ish art rock found on the tropically themed 2012 record Cassowary.

Featuring Pascalle Burton, Jane Elliot and Phil Usher – The Stress of Leisure are also an accomplished live act, and you’re sure to hear that coming through on the following live recording.

Tune in to hear the band playing live at The Beetle Bar in Brisbane.
