Afenginn
Recorded and Mixed by 4zzz
Recorded at Woodford Folk Festival, Woodford, 27th December 2014 – 1st January 2015.

A profound fascination with the world’s many musical cultures and the desire to create their own version of world music have been the driving forces for Afenginn since their start in 2002. This band is by no means conventional. They are inquisitive, playful and have an imaginative and anarchistic take on traditional musical structures.

Paper Lions
Recorded and Mixed by 4zzz
Recorded at Woodford Folk Festival, Woodford, 27th December 2014 – 1st January 2015.

Paper Lions are an indie rock band from Belfast, PEI whose music shines with sunny melodies and tales of lost youth. Equally influenced by the clear-voiced harmonies of the Beach Boys and the clanging guitars of modern rock, at the heart of the band are long-standing friendships and vibrant pop songs based on the sandy shores of their remote island province.

Sex On Toast
Recorded & Mixed by John Robinson
Recorded at Woodford Folk Festival, 27th December, 2014.

Sex On Toast are a funked up lot, specialising in overblown choreography and onstage antics, these new-jack swingers feel ripped straight from another era. Last month saw the release of their brand new single, “Oh Loretta”, a throwback track that could have been recorded in the 70’s, but is nevertheless yesterday fresh.

Equal parts righteous and ridiculous, Sex On Toast are known for their raucous and engaging live shows. These Festival regulars, have performed on numerous stages across Australia, from Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Adelaide Fringe, to Apollo Bay Music Festival and Woodford Folk where this set was recorded. Live from the Bazaar stage and running through the new year, this is Sex On Toast.

After taking home the prize for Best Original Song at this year’s Qube Effect with their track, Your Face Ruins My Day, the band have gone on to release their debut LP. An understated, self-titled affair, The Eagle Junction LP is like an RSVP to the future, an affirmation of the band’s inevitable success.

4ZZZ were lucky enough to have The Eagle Junction play a set right here at the station’s luxurious carpark stage. The set was recorded on April 18th of this year for Street Soundzzz, as part of 4ZZZ’s youth week celebrations.

Episode 4: Woodford Folk Festival; The Gathering Festival

Image

In episode 4 of Live Delay, we take you festival hopping with a couple of sets from Woodford 2011 and also The Gathering Festival.

THE WOODFORD FOLK FESTIVAL 2011

Recorded in 2011 by Sky Kirkham.
Mixed by Sky Kirkham, 2012.

Recorded in the lush environment of Woodfordia, 4ZZZ and Zed Digital braved the heat to record sets from artists playing at the 2011 Woodford Folk Festival. Held over the new year period in 2011, we managed to capture some of the smooth sounds of indie/folk artists such as Charlie Mayfair, Nick and Liesl, and Andrea Soler.

THE GATHERING FESTIVAL 2011

Recorded in 2011 by Sky Kirkham.
Mixed by Sky Kirkham, 2011.

The Gathering Festival went down on September 17 2011 at the Old Museum in Brisbane, and the 4ZZZ live recording team where there to capture the magic. We present two outrageous sets, firstly from the risqué Bertie Page Clinic, followed by the rambunctious bluesy rock of The Jim Rockfords.

Airing details: First aired via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 1 February 2013.
Production and engineering: Darragh Murray
Kudos: Andrew McLellan, Sky Kirkham
